Wind in the Wings

Wind in the Wings
"Always On My Mind" by Marbert Rocel

I just started my internship at this aerospace company subsidiary in Liège called Safran Aero Boosters. My direct superior was absent on my first day, so my task was simply settling in for the day. That is already enough considering the influx of information on the first day — I got my computer, badge and desk.

Barely having received all the new short-lived belongings, I was taken on a tour of the whole plant. It was truly impressive to see all the huge machines that physically transform materials into plane parts. The visit was a great starting point. It got me warmed up to the thought of working on plane parts without getting into too much theory yet.

I must say, I really enjoy how Wallonian people function. Very different from the French. They seem sincere in the way they interact with one another, not that the French are not, but I feel like here there is a layer of warmth, all the while doing it. The French are direct, but that can feel condescending at times.

When things are touchy for the Wallonians, they will have an expression to release the tension. Something along the lines of “we need to put the church back in the centre of the village”, for example. An expression that works especially well with the Wallonian accent and a wide smile.

As cool as it is to be working on planes for a few months, it is also a reminder that I am closer and closer to career life and integrating the capitalist system full-time. This brings up a lot of questions, and not a lot of answers for now, but I am certain things will clear up.
