Reward Yourself
The results of your work are sometimes hard to see. I have been attending regular therapy since March. It is something that I first tried after I learned that, as a student in France, I have the right to 12 free sessions per year.
Last week was my 6th session, and there were a lot of eye-opening moments in that session. I felt that I had learned about myself and had also started to act the part. The work that I had put in showed results.
Till that point, it was more about learning. Now I saw the fruit of my work. This meant that I had started taking action on the knowledge. Becoming aware and trying to understand one's problems is already a mountain to climb, yet there's one right behind it – action.
I got homework for next session. I will compare myself right now to when I started therapy. Having done the exercise, it was a pleasant surprise to put into words that I have changed the way I interact with the world around me. Not everything is perfectly fixed, yet there have been steps in the right direction.
This idea can, for me, be transdisciplinary. Whatever you are working on to change for the better, it is a good thing to put perspective behind it. Compare not to others, but to where you were when you started and take pride in the way you have come.
As I said last week, persist – it pays off, and reward yourself for that persistence.
This Week's Suggestions:
🎶 "Life Goes On" or "ライフ・ゴーズ・オン" by Chihiro Yamanaka:
So, if you remember, I biked to Eindhoven a few weeks ago. The friend I went to see decided to bike to Liège this weekend. On his way back, he sent me this song, which, whilst battling a hangover and this blog somehow hit the spot. The fast rhythm and the soothing jazz melodies got me going. I ended up listening to the whole album.
That is all for this week!
