The Long Weekend
I had an intense weekend which included, but was not limited to, a wedding. Fortunately enough, Monday was off from school due to it being Election Day here in Montréal.
So I got to rot away for a day after all the shenanigans and digest everything. I find that in these moments I have the deepest thoughts about where I am currently and the reasons for it.
It is wild that I just happened to come on exchange for this precise fall semester and that my cousin got married right at that moment. I am very grateful for getting to be here for such an important moment. It is also extremely lucky that I happen to speak both English and French, which is rather useful at a wedding in Quebec.
Another thing that was on my mind during this off-day was how challenging it is to do this exchange on a purely human level. It feels like building something that will not be used. The product of my life here will be an experience, yet the physical reality of it will be lost, especially since I don't see myself fully moving here.
This creates a sense of delaying life for later. It is a slippery slope of believing that after X is checked off, then we start to live. Yet I feel like, for the exchange, that is more the case?
It feels like there's that little asterisk that's always hanging above everything I do. That is the point of this exchange as well – the time limit. Yet that can also be generalised to our human condition: the time limit is the point. So yeah, that's where I am at right now on this rather cold evening in Canada– questioning the human condition.
This Week's Suggestions:
🎶 "Supernature (Climax Edit)" by Cerrone:
Found this song quite randomly accompanying a photo on my feed, but it sparked my interest with its zesty sounds.
🎬 "Le paradis des millionnaires" on ARTE:
I have watched quite a few ARTE documentaries recently, and I have found myself enjoying them a lot. This is what I am currently watching.
Till next time!
