You Should Take More Pictures
Picture taken in my summer home on the island of Saaremaa

Take more pictures! Yes, that is what I am going to talk about today. It is something I need to hear myself, so why not share the idea with others as well. We’ve all heard the “one picture is worth a thousand words” and it’s very true. The word count is of course arguable but I still stand by that cliché. Pictures are priceless, they give us a way to travel in time. How crazy is that? Time travel is real! In the moment, taking that one picture might seem awkward or simply a hassle but it is very much worth it! It helps us time travel back to that specific moment so why not snap that picture?

I came upon the idea of taking more pictures when I was staying in my summer house with my family. Since that point in the last week, I have taken so many pictures. So many of course for my standards. That standard can be a very round number of zero on some weeks. I am quite certain that my perfectionism of only wanting to take the perfect picture could play a role in my lack of photography.

The perfect example of not taking enough pictures is the relationship I have with my closest friends. With one of them, we have been pretty much best friends for four to five years and we only have 10 solid pictures together. Documenting your life is so important yet I just tend not to do it. Or at least I choose a more difficult way of doing it than taking a simple picture.

That exact friend has found a crafty solution to that problem. He got a polaroid camera which directly prints out the pictures. With it came the goal to create a wall of memories for his new apartment with said pictures. Thus every time there is a get-together the camera comes out and the clicking starts. This solution is a bit pricey but it works wonders.

Another way solution in my own life has been BeReal which is an app that forces you to document daily what you do at random moments. It is another great way to have somewhat of an overview of what happens in your life.

P.S The day this goes out is my 20th birthday! I am simultaneously celebrating a full year of writing this blog! I am very proud of this feat and also amazed that I could do it every week without missing a single week.

This Week’s Suggestions:

🎶 "Little More Love" by AJ Tracey

This song by AJ Tracey has a very nice beat. It is a song that I found when I was already in my electronic music phase. This means that it is sort of special. I rarely look for anything but electronic music these days, this means that my other playlists tend to be a lot more static. Anyway, this song has a good vibe and I enjoy listening to it!

🎬 About Time

About time is an amazing movie. I watched it on the plane and was so emotionally invested that I had to make an effort to not cry audibly. It shows living every moment to its fullest in such a nice way. It’s very much a feel-good movie, these movies are necessary every once in a while!

🎥 Don't Hex the Water – exurb1a video about privacy:

I am very clearly an exurb1a fanboy, since every single time he does post a new video I just have to promote it here. But every time I watch one of his videos I feel that these need to be shared. The content is so entertaining but at the same time so informative whilst being very compact. In this video, he speaks about privacy and how we have evolved towards it and might just be on the verge of losing it once again.

Thanks for being on this journey with me!
