Vibrations off Vinyls

Since my weekend in London, I have started to cherish mixing on vinyl and have not gotten it out of my head. Later, in Lille, I went to the Nox where they mixed on vinyl all night long, it was powerful.

There is something about the vinyl mix that makes it authentic. There are no indicators of any kind about the music. The DJ, who I would qualify as an artist at this point, has to rely solely on his mastery of the craft. He has to know the structure of songs, the ups and downs, the vocal parts and the breaks, the speed and the key.

As an extra, whenever I happen to be somewhere where the DJ is on vinyl, the crowd seems to be a lot more present. In the moment. They are actively listening to what there is to offer. The music is simply so captivating that everyone wants to join the journey that they are brought on.

That is why I full-heartedly support the ban of phones in most techno nightclubs, which is not popularised enough I would argue. Everyone moves to the rhythm as one and there is a certain flow to the crowd. If you find the right groove you can mix right in. It is a lovely experience which I got to encounter again when going to C12 in Brussels this past weekend.

In Lille, there is this vinyl store I like – Bohème Records. It was suggested to me a good while back but I only went there this year. It has sparked my interest in that world even more. The dude who works there is a very pleasant and knowledgeable person. He knows all genres and can freely speak about all of them.

I went up to him and all I said was "I enjoy drum and bass and also listen to some trance by artists like Spray". He knew to give me different vinyls to listen to. So I usually spend a solid hour listening to vinyls. Till now I have always left with at least one vinyl of some kind.

To conclude, I will be buying myself a new vinyl player this very week since my previous one is unfortunately out of order but there are a lot of vinyls that are itching to be listened to.

P.S. I had a rough weekend with a lot of travel, so I postponed this post for a few days

This Week's Suggestions:

🎶 "Starship":

One of the songs played at the nox by the collective Desertland Festival. It was quite a night.

Have a mindful week!
