Trip To Tartu

This weekend I got home for the weekend. I got off at 3 P.M on Friday. I started travelling towards Tallinn when my friend called me and tried to convince me to pull up to Tartu. For context – travelling from Tapa (where my military base is located) to Tallinn takes an hour and from there to Tartu it takes another two and a half hours.

I was not feeling it. I had just had a rather intense week and wanted to rest. Then it dawned upon me – I need to go. Every single time I have gotten home these last few times, I have chilled with close friends in small groups. I do appreciate these moments. That said, I feel like I am letting my social life outside of the army slowly fade.

So deciding to be socially active I bought tickets to Tartu. On the bus, there was a very talkative woman sitting beside me. She predicted that due to the full moon, it was going to be an evening full of juvenile drinking and shenanigans. I was going to the "Fresh Meat" party, so the prediction could not be far from the truth.

Right after arriving, I walked to my friend's place where the predrinks directly started in a small group of five. I was given no time to adjust to the city whatsoever. I did not mind though. I immediately hit it off with a person who had served in the same military unit where I am at the moment.

Rapidly, the clock came around. We started heading towards the "Fresh Meat" party. Said party is organised by studentdays and is meant for first-year students who have recently arrived in town.

I quickly got to talking with a girl I had not spoken to in a long time. We had spoken a few years ago but had not clicked. This time around it was easier and everything just flowed. At different times people are different. The wrong time is a real thing apparently.

The evening flew by in the blink of an eye. At around 4 A.M, we decided to help the studentdays crew clean up since we knew a few of the organisers. It was a great time. I got to my friend's place at around 6 whilst only getting lost twice on the way.

I returned to Tallinn on Saturday. I took time off. I watched a movie, cooked myself dinner and went to sleep early. Thus I managed to socialise and also get alone time. I am happy with the way this weekend turned out.

This Week's Suggestions:

🎶 "heikki???" by nublu:

This is a remake of a slightly older Estonian classic also called "Heiki". Nublu's version takes into account the older version and somewhat questions its validity nowadays.

🎬 The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar:

This is a production by Wes Anderson based on a Roald Dahl story. We watched this on Saturday morning whilst eating takeaway. It is a lovely 40 min story which at first was somewhat confusing but turned out to be a great story.

📺 Marcus Aurelius: The Man Who Solved the Universe:

All the productivity and self-improvement stuff I have explored over the years has been somewhat based on Marcus Aurelius' "Meditations". Marcus Aurelius was a Roman emperor who was simultaneously one of the main philosophers behind stoicism. The linked video is a great dissection of the main takeaways from "Meditations".

That's enough for today!
