The Threshold of Mastery

"I think everyone needs to spend a year or two obsessing over Deep Work, monotasking, the Pomodoro Technique, Spaced Repetition for the Ebbinghaus Forgetting Curve, the Eisenhower Matrix, Parkinson’s Law and everything else." Chris Williamson.
I recently happened upon a video called "12 Productivity Myths That Are Ruining Your Life". I find that this video gives excellent advice. For me, it made me wonder about the existence of a certain threshold of mastery. Let me explain.
When I first discovered some self-help rules I swore by them religiously. Looking back it is absurd how passionate I was about some random rules I found on the internet. That being said, this helped me obtain a solid foundation on which I could build myself.
After more than two years I have become a bit looser about the strictness of my systems. I know that if I do something every day then it will stick, but after a certain threshold, the activity is a part of my routine and I can deliberately decide how I act with it. I can even slack off a little because getting back on track is relatively easy when something is a habit. I believe this to be a certain mastery of the craft.
That is why, to become more selective about the productivity tools used, I find that this solid base needs to exist. This base is, for example, built by trying to create the perfect calendar, to-do list and notetaking system while on the journey, miserably failing and driving oneself to the brink of burnout.
Bringing this thought to a close – as with other things "productivity" is a skill that can be mastered. Once mastered, it can be tamed and made more functional for different circumstances. Whilst sounding abstract this simply means that once you get good at something then doing that something is a lot easier!

The leading plot of today's post.
Mark Rober is someone who genuinely inspires me to continue down the path of engineering. In this video he does just as he says in the title: he drops an egg from space. It turns out that sending an egg to space and making it land without breaking is not that easy of a task!
🎶 "One Summer's Day" by Joe Hisaishi:
I have to come clean, I first found the lofi version. Soon enough realised that I knew this melody from somewhere and I was right, it is one of the songs from the film "Spirited Away". Enjoy these four minutes of calming piano accompanied by select instruments!
Till next time!
