The Honeymoon Phase

Just a month ago I wrote an ode to my physics teacher in "Layering Deadlines". I put forward his way of conveying the course material. He presents information in layers and if one follows his lead it is rather easy to succeed. Furthermore, I have nothing but respect for my teachers who are knowledgeable about their own subjects.
This being said, at the start of this week I was brought to disagree with my physics teacher. On Monday, we had a little test in class and to our surprise, there was a full question about a chapter we were not asked to prepare. When confronting the teacher about it, he admitted wanting to see whether or not we had gone over that chapter in recent times. Even though I agree that little tests are important to keep a steady study rate I do not condone being tested on surprise subjects.
All of a sudden I started noticing other details that I disagreed with my teacher about. That is when it hit me – the honeymoon phase was over. Never before had I experienced the ending of the honeymoon phase outside an intimate relationship. I have to say that noticing it truly amused me.
This blindness to wrongdoings can be a blessing – in this scenario, I had an overwhelming amount of respect for this teacher that I translated into an extrinsic source of accountability. Basically, I sought to understand the course material because I wanted to show appreciation towards my teacher's work. This self-created social pressure might be a problem in certain scenarios, but in this case, it worked in my favour.
The whole situation can make one wonder – what else has a honeymoon phase?
This Week's Suggestions:
⚖️ How Much Does Humanity Weigh?:
In this video, Hank Green discusses exactly the video's title – how much do we weigh? This channel, formed by the Green brothers, often provides very entertaining nerdy snippets of information like this.
🎶 "Only You" by K Motionz & Emily Makis:
I have already promoted a collaborative song between these two artists before. It was in October of last year to be precise, in the post Play Ball, Old Sport. Emily Makis's vocals are sublime, and the music production of K Motionz puts my mind at ease. Give it a listen!
That's it for today!
