The Few Firsts

This week there were a few first experiences in the army — the first forest camp and right after the first time getting back into civilian clothes and leaving the base for the weekend.
Let’s first talk about the forest experience. We went away for two nights and three days. It was an eye opening experience. I was surprised with how little one can survive.
Over the span of those three days we got a cumulative 12 hours of sleep (not in a tent). It was pretty intense. The most difficult for me was dealing with others while sleep deprived.
Nonetheless I am happy with how it turned out and I would go as far as to say that the forest camp was formative in a lot of ways. I can not really get into the nitty-gritty of it since there is information I can not disclose.
Moving on, we got back from the forest on Thursday exhausted. Since we arrived late in the evening we did not get much more sleep than the previous nights.
That being said Friday was the time when we got to have a break from the strict structure. We got to go on “city leave” as it is called. It was a necessary break. We have been told multiple times that those two days should be treated as a privilege and it is true. A few years ago no one got home until 8 weeks.
Thus I am grateful. I am grateful for the formative forest experiences but also the city leave that helped maintain better mental health.
This Week’s Suggestions:
This is a fast paced mellow techno song. It was released by KI/KI's label and that's how I came across the EP. The whole EP is great but this song has a special place in my heart. Have a listen!
Till next week!
