Pilgrim Time

Been walking for a few days now. Physically not the toughest I have done. I get to walk on hard ground and the weight on my back is rather small. I am not drained after every day, well not the same as I was in the army. It’s different, I still get to shower daily, I can get warm food if I want and other small differences. This walk is more challenging on a mental level. You only speak to strangers, if you do, which is a very interesting concept. It’s not loneliness but something of the kind.
So, have I found myself yet? Nope, I do not think I will either. I have learned some lessons though. Simple reminders.
- Speak first, make yourself vulnerable.
- I am 20. I do not need to know stuff.
- Believe in people, their niceness, yet build no expectations.
By day 5 I am already having a great time. Surprisingly I do not miss anything yet. I know my family and friends will be there when I get back. Basic hygiene and nutrition needs are met. It’s just like an easier forest camp. Like I get to sleep in bunk beds WITH curtains? Whaaat? Privacy? Crazy.
What I must also say is that the Portuguese hospitality, especially towards pilgrims is beyond limits. Just at the time of writing this I walked into a fancy looking restaurant — the waitress said that she’s booked but she will see what she can do. Finally she found a 45min time slot in between bookings and offered it to me. Nothing beyond the limits but simply a nice gesture towards a tall german-looking slightly stinky pilgrim.
Anyway. That’s enough pilgrim talk. I will give a similar quick overview of my travels next week! See ya there!

On Wednesday after 7 hours of walking with no earphones I really felt like listening to this specific song. It was just on repeat in my head so I put it on repeat with earphones. It’s a slapper.
Bom Caminho!
