People Have Lived Here

During the past week I have been home alone. My family is away at our summer house. This means my home in central Tallinn became a meet-up place for all my friends. Located in the center of town we have a house with a garden and a small sauna – it is magical. A place where everyone got together and stayed for a while.
There is something about sharing this space which feels right. Everyone who I've brought here has cherished it. The house has a specific look to it as well. The walls are painted by children and adults alike, with written reminders like a 2012 plane arrival on the doorframe. A sentence that stuck with me was that "people have lived in here".
I do not think I can say the same for my Lille apartment which, on the contrary, I have kept (mostly) squeaky clean probably as an unconscious contrast to the household I grew up in.
During my first years in Lille the apartment was rather vanilla – white walls, B&W posters and that's about it. No decorations, no personalisation. From that I feel like there has been evolution, but it is limited compared to my family home. Even though yes, an apartment is not my property so there is a limit on that front.
So I guess the solution is buying a house. Funnily enough this idea has come up multiple times from different people during this very summer. A bunch of 22 year olds considering taking a 20 to 30 year loan to buy a house. Personally I need to do a lot of research if I want to do something of the kind since my financial literacy is limited.
That being said, the simple idea of a plot of land that you own seems very nice. It is like unlocking a new game-mode. If compared to MineCraft, it feels like unlocking Creative mode – you have full creative freedom over your lot. At least for me (and quite a few of my friends), there's an imaginary sense of freedom related to owning a house.
This Week's Suggestions:
🎶 "Don't Waste My Time" by Âme and Trikk featuring Jens Kuross:
This is a song Shazamed from I Land Sound. It has such a summer vibe which I struggle to put into words. The vocal is simple and elegant and it is something to just blast in a car while driving from place to place in the chaos of summer.
That's all for today!
