Numb Airport Time

Numb Airport Time
“Waterfall” by Pola & Bryson

Right now sitting in the airport. Plane’s been delayed. I am completely indifferent about it. I am in a weird in-between moment — between holiday and work, between Estonia and France, between two completely different environments.

As time goes on, the discussions when catching up with people get more and more about school and work. The most unsettling question for me being — what are you doing after studies? This question comes in many forms actually — there’s also the where are you going after your degree?

Both demand knowledge that I am yet to obtain. Well I am working towards it rather constantly, but I am nowhere near having a concrete idea. Paradoxically the timespan of two and a half years seems like a very long and short period simultaneously. I have the feeling that I have some time yet when I look around there’s people who have done 5 internships and are now on a stable position in a recognised firm.

Comparaison is the thief of joy but we cannot go without it either. It gives drive to do better. I am doing my first internship this summer. We shall see if it leads to more.

Mostly there’s the drive to, as soon as possible, become self-sufficient. During my prépa years it was close to impossible. In the military I was closest to it. This year it is still complex to take a job on the side.

That being said I am building a solid portfolio of experiences. Things I am not being remunerated for but which still have considerable responsibilities behind them.

So I am fine I guess.. There is still a good amount of work ahead in this life. One thing that I have understood recently is the importance of cherishing and working on relationships be it romantic or platonic. Especially when times get rough.

An idea I got from a close friend’s father is to, at the end of the year, choose some special people who really changed your year for the better and write them a personal letter to thank them. I find it to be a very personal way to cherish a relationship.

This Week’s Suggestions:

Some liquid to start the year off right. Simple yet so efficient, a little melody, some good vocals and most importantly drums.

To a lovely start of the year!
