As I briefly mentioned in last week's suggestions I have been getting into drawing again! Well, I call it drawing in reality it's sketching. I try to draw humans and perspective and humans in perspective. I am not very good yet but I already see the results of my practice which is very motivating.

During this past week, I found some advice online to get better at sketching. The main idea was to swap out the pencil for a ballpoint pen. At first, I was confused. This would just mean that any mistakes would be impossible to remove and changes could not be made.

Then it clicked – that's the point of sketching. Getting something down, just to get the idea down, the shape of it. You're not trying to get the perfect reproduction of the scene. It's a draft. Using a ballpoint pen means that you have to make choices and stand by them. The drawing that comes out of the sketch might not resemble it in the slightest.

Yet having a draft to bounce off of is so much easier. From my blogging experience – if I do not do a preemptive brainstorm during the week then starting from a blank page on Sunday is unpleasant. It takes a while to get the ball rolling with no momentum. Simply jotting down three different ideas is enough. It is at the time of writing that I will decide which of the three I resonate most with.

So take off the training wheels and start moving. Avoid getting caught up by small and unimportant details, fight that mean perfectionism-monster. Extra points if you find a way to make it difficult to overstress details on that first part of the creative process (like using a ballpoint pen when sketching).

This Week's Suggestions:

🎶 "Strobe" by deadmau5:

deadmau5 is another pioneer of electronic music as we know it today. I only recently adventured back into his discography and found this gem. I listened to it for an hour this past Saturday. "Strobe" is a 10-minute journey that has not lost any of its qualities through a 13-year evolution of the genre. If you got a moment it's a lovely experience!

🎬 Big Oxygen:

Exurb1a has blessed us with yet another video! This time we're talking Big Oxygen like Big Brother. The video tells a story that is captivating and entertaining. It all starts with a janitor on a spaceship and escalates quickly into thought-provoking human behaviours.

That's all for me today!
