New Year, New Systems

New Year, New Systems

The time between Christmas and New Year’s is somewhat of a timeout from life. There are close to no obligations, and personally, I spent this time with my friends and family. This time can leave you alone with your thoughts, which can be as tormenting as it can be calm.

Even though I am not big on New Year's resolutions, I must agree that the timing of a year passing is a clear-cut moment with the aforementioned time off that is ideal for reflection and thus also projecting oneself. In this context, I decided to turn to the closest thing I have to a life coach and asked AI to make me the perfect goal-setting and tracking system.

Something I personally need to remind myself of is that setting up a system for doing a THING is not doing the THING. Setting up the perfect system can itself become a procrastination of sorts. That being said, I truly believe that if I set some clear goals and create trackers for them, then I can create a clearer path towards them.

Currently in the process, I have created some solid templates, yet they are far from perfect. In these templates, there are sections for studies/career, finances/autonomy, health/mind and finally relationships.

Each section follows a three-part structure: vision (where I want to be), key outcomes (how I'll measure progress), and constraints (what's holding me back). Multiply that by four life domains, and you get a template that's theoretically perfect but practically exhausting.

This week, I will be exploring how to make it more accessible to my quick dopamine hit needing brain.

This Estonian pop song has a lot of positive energy. I only found it recently in the cold winter months, even though it is the perfect summer vibe.

Happy New Year!
