Mentor Ship
This year in school I have taken up roles with quite a bit of responsibility. It is somewhat difficult to navigate your obligations and your rights in a new role. That is why I have found it very useful to have mentors who help me understand my role and my problems more profoundly and efficiently.
The simple reason why a mentor is useful is that they have been through it or are very informed on the subject. They can simply tell you what to do, what not to do and what to look out for. There is so much insight in merely talking to the mentor about a given subject.
What I have done is simply ask a rather open question about a topic I am interested in and then whip out my notepad and take notes on everything that seems important. It's like taking a personalised class on something.
Beforehand I was a believer in learning alone. Building yourself up from scratch, because it ensures that you understand all the details. I still respect and like that approach to learning. That being said, having a mentor simply makes this process faster. Since you get to start doing faster and in action we learn most.
The only problem is usually finding a mentor. For me, I was lucky that I got along very well with the people who were in the respective roles the year before. That meant that they explicitly told me to come to them with any and every question.
Even if you need to go through more struggle than me to get a mentor on a certain role or in a topic, I highly recommend you do. It's just a simple boost that ensures that you do not get stuck on the wrong things, especially at the start.
This Week's Suggestions:
🎶 Marlon Hoffstadt B2B Malugi Boiler Room:
On Friday, when walking to the gym after school, this mix really woke me up. Since Friday I have had this mix on repeat. It just has such high energy. Marlon and Malugi's style is really nice. A lot of vocals and melodies yet keeping a good beat in the background to bounce to. Furthermore, their happy energy behind the decks is just immaculate. Highly recommend!
💡 "Stop Pouring. Start Drinking." :
Very well-edited video with a good story. It is about having potential and using this potential. Getting into action is the idea, have a look, it is short and efficient.
See you in October!
