Lima Lima Charlie
For context: Lima is the L letter in the NATO alphabet, respectively Charlie stands for the letter C. Lima Lima is short for Linnaluba, which means getting home for the weekend in the army. There is also the expression Lima Lima Charlie – Linnaluba Cancel.
We had our first encounter with the latter. As I mentioned last week, I was the responsible for the week. On Friday, after our forest camp, 4 soldiers and I were summoned into our superiors' office and were asked for names of people who have trouble with discipline. We came up with three names of people who had trouble being on time.
It was a simple calling out on their incorrect behaviour. We constantly call out each other's bad behaviour to push each other to be better. That being said this soldier-to-soldier confrontation is not enough sometimes.
As every Friday before Lima Lima, we make the barracks "embarrassingly clean" as my direct superior very well put it. Cleaning in itself is a very meditative process yet there is a certain stress related to it if Lima Lima depends on it. Either way, we get that done and are ready to leave the barracks for the weekend.
Right before letting us go, the supervisor of the cleaning pulls out a paper and says. Everyone can get the Lima Lima apart from the following three people. It was the three names we gave away in the cabinet. It was a rough blow. For me, it kinda felt like I threw my own men under the bus.
I have thought about this quite a bit in the past few days. In a way, maybe it is the best way to make some people learn their lesson, yet I still find it to be a rather extreme measure. Furthermore, I am questioning the resentment that this will create in these men towards the whole system.
This Week's Suggestions:
A different kind of suggestion this week – if you do happen to come to Tallinn or live here I highly suggest checking out Nudist Winery in Telliskivi. It is a simple yet comfy bar with good mood lighting and a lovely design.
🎬 I tracked my mood every day for one year :
If this title does not ring a bell, then you might not have been following Matt D'Avella long enough. It is very much his style to make a statistical analysis of a single personal attribute or activity over the span of a month or even a year. The case in point is about a very interesting subject— mood.
🎶 "Somewhere over the Rainbow" by Israel Kamakawiwoʻole:
Pretty sure everyone knows this song. Very soothing singing over the sounds of the ukulele. The perfect song to kick off the week with a positive tone. Do give it a go!
Till next week!
