LDN Getaway

LDN Getaway

This weekend, I had the chance to visit a friend in London. That's only one and a half hours away from Lille by train, which is rather slick. Come to think of it, three European capitals are less than two hours away from Lille: Paris, Brussels, and London.

It feels like a well-deserved weekend getaway even though I just returned from Christmas break. I do appreciate the change of environment, it sparks some specific kind of happiness in me. I got to see some very lovely places in Great Britain's capital.

I am truly grateful to have cool friends that study in cool places. It just gives me so many opportunities. All you have to do is travel there—there's a place to stay and a local guide. It's perfection.

This time around, we went bar-hopping in Hackney the first evening. There was a prominent hipster vibe, comparable to some neighbourhoods in Tallinn. The next morning we went for a morning jog in the sub-zero temperatures but the sun was out so it was glorious!

Later in the day, I met up with a friend I had made on the Camino who is based in London. I really enjoyed, even for a few hours, hanging out with a group of British people. Such a different approach to everyday life than I had imagined – very positive and open.

That same evening we ended up in Shoreditch in very cosy bars with great ambience and live DJ sets. The town was very much alive and everyone seemed happy.

My takeaway from this weekend is to keep connections warm! You might be able to leverage them some time, like in my case – getting to do some quality tourism.

This is a song I have had in my rotation since my winter holidays in Estonia. Some good Estonian pop music from the 2010s. Enjoy!

Have a lovely week!
