it is over. (The Sequel)
"You Will See" by Quarterhead & SESA

363 days ago I wrote a blog post called "it is over.", it was to mark the end of a two-year journey in the French preparatory school. This time around, almost a year later, I have just finished my military service. Just like with the prépa, it will take a second to process that I am indeed done with that chapter of my life.

It was a tough year, especially since out of the 11 months of service there was a solid 7 of winter. Sometimes the temperatures went as low as -25°C and no sleeping bag was thick enough to protect us from such cold. That being said, I think back to it as a challenge overcome and not as torture forced upon me.

I am confident in saying this experience was beneficial to me. It educated me on how to power through difficult moments most efficiently, it helped me build confidence in decision-making and most of all, I am in one of the best shapes of my life. For the latter, I will take some credit for myself, since I became a consistent gym-goer in the past 2 months.

All this was also since I chose one of the most difficult military disciplines available for my service. Taking an easier path would not have satisfied me, reconnaissance was the right choice. For anyone signing up – it is not easy, if you are not willing to put in the work and want something easygoing, do not sign up for recce. On the other hand, if you are willing to struggle and face challenges that make people vulnerable, it might be for you.

Anyway. It is over. It has been over for three days now. As I said, still trying to fully grasp it. Till then, as I did last year, here are a few pictures to illustrate this past year:

In the top left, my squad and I are exploring old soviet bunkers with our full equipment. In the top right is a picture with which I want to showcase that we were driving on ice for most of the winter. The bottom left expresses the caffeine consumption of an average private. On the bottom right, is one of our reconnaissance cars camouflaged with spruces during the Spring Storm.

This will be my first addition to this year's summer playlist. A lovely easy-going song with a funky sound to it, which is still very pleasant. Have a listen!

To having a good summer!
