"At the Wrong Place of Memory" by Gaston Fiore

This Saturday, as a start to my holiday, I went to an enormous techno event in Brussels called Rave Rebels. It featured some of the biggest names in the genre. I went with a close friend from high school who does not consume any type of mind-altering substances. This meant I was completely sober and able to appreciate the visual and auditory experience fully.

This was my first large-scale techno event. Before I have only been to small and big-scale Drum and Bass events, an electronic genre which is not as popular as techno. The main difference I noticed is the hyper-professional production of the scene. Apart from the incredible sound system, there was amazing VJ’ing (video jockeying) on a huge double screen. This double screen created a 3D effect on the visuals which was very trippy.

Needless to say, I was impressed by the production. What impressed me even more, was Amelie Lens. I knew that she is called the queen of techno and all but I never understood the hype. She does have almost 2 million followers on Instagram, yet I never really listened to any of her DJ’ing. I had only listened to the songs she put out which were not very much my style.

I was absolutely blown away. She mixes really fast and really damn well. Since I have a little taste of what mixing techno feels like I appreciated so much her experience and expertise behind the decks. Furthermore, her song selection, something absolutely essential for a DJ, was perfect. It was the ideal intensity for headlining.

I finally understood what the hype was about with Amelie Lens. Surprisingly, when someone spends a lot of time perfecting their craft, they get good. This event inspired me a lot and I am looking forward to mixing more in the upcoming weeks as a result of it.

This Week's Suggestions:

🎶 "At the Wrong Place of Memory" by Gaston Fiore:

This song was played live by I Hate Models, a French DJ, in front of about 6 thousand people (or more) during the event. It has 152 listens on youtube at the moment I am writing this. I love that a big name in the industry promotes smaller artists. It is such a good gesture to make the scene grow! Check it out, it is a bouncy melodic tune.

Till next time!
