HIIT, my journey
First of all happy new year! I hope You had a great holiday season! To start off this new year I have decided to talk about my journey with HIIT (high-intensity interval training).
I was introduced to HIIT in 2018 (with this specific video). I was hooked. The idea is simple, by doing this short and intense exercise circuit you can burn fat up to 48 hours after the workout. At least that is what the dude with a six-pack said, so it can't be that far from the truth. Anyway, I was about 15 so of course, I wanted to "Get Shredded Fast For Summer" and so I went along.
This took me on a lovely journey. At first, I did this exact workout daily for about three months. When starting I could only do the circuit once but by the end of the three months I was going for four to five rounds. I really started enjoying the process – it was a short but intense workout. It was efficient and it gave me a powerful boost of energy.
I was on and off with this and other HIIT circuits found on the web for two years. I did not always have time for it, but I did tend to gravitate back towards it. Then came our beloved Covid. In May 2020 I printed out some A4 sheets with different dumbbells and bodyweight exercises on them. I started making collages of 8 exercises – a personalised HIIT circuit if you will. This was the phase in my life where I tried to plan everything. To some extent it worked.
I have since then created an album on my phone called "workouts" with all of the collages. I have to say that it is life-changing. It renders the process of working out that much simpler. There is no need to plan the workout, there is only a choice to be made, which workout to do.
My love for HIIT has not faded over the span of 5 years. What makes it special in my eyes is the mix of efficiency and energy that it provides. I am not saying this will be the perfect workout solution for everyone but if you are up to the task I suggest you give it a try! Here's one of my collages to get you started:
This Week's Suggestions:
If you do end up trying this workout let me know how it goes! Reminder about the structure – it's 45 seconds of effort and 15 seconds of rest! I usually use my phone's stopwatch to time it.
This song came out two weeks ago and it has been in my music rotation quite often. It is a subgenre of drum and bass called liquid, it's got a nice little melody and a lot of drums. Something energetic yet calm, this song would fit perfectly in the playlist of one of my close friends called calm but hard.
That's all for this time!
