Deceptions and Delegating
It happens that the wind blows in the opposite direction of where we would like to go. That we do not get what we want or get where we want to. We cannot control everything that happens around us, yet we still protest when things do not go our way. Deceptions are difficult to deal with, especially when they kick below the belt.
Sometimes our ego is hit or sometimes our hopes are crushed. In the past weeks, I have had quite a few moments which have left me clueless. For example, in a forest camp during shootings, one of my ears started ringing and it did not stop. It was a scary moment since hearing is one of the senses that once it is gone it is not coming back.
The absurd part was that even though I was scared for my hearing, I was mostly worried about how my squad would function. How things would roll for the rest of the week. Turns out, everything went fine, great even. My right hand, whose abilities I have doubted in the past, proved himself. Under his leadership, the squad was called the most efficient squad of the week. This left me proud and somewhat confused. How could I not see his abilities earlier?
Soon enough, I concluded that I must be bad at delegating. I do not share enough responsibility. It is why my right hand could not showcase his abilities in leadership earlier. It does add up, I do have very much of a mindset of wanting everything done my way, which is something I need to get over.
This incident has made me rethink my leadership. I have started to second-guess my own decisions which is a big no-no in the military. I need to regain confidence. My superiors, for the most part, have gone through the same experiences as I am going through at the very moment. Thus I will probably be looking for a mentor amongst them.
Okay, so the main ideas from today:
- Deceptions are unavoidable just let them happen and fade
- Delegating is not easy but a necessary part of leading
- Seek help when necessary
This Week's Suggestions:
Love, Death & Robots is a collection of short animated movies. Each episode is a new story and of course, has a new animation style. I would compare it to a collection of novels, you are thrown into the deep end and exit it just as fast as you showed up. I enjoyed watching a few of these episodes over the weekend, especially since they are all independent from one another.

This is a bouncy UK tune with some funky vocals. "Can I borrow your lighter, I know that you like her." It's simple and catchy yet has some character. Have a listen!
Have a happy start to your week!
