Constant Movement, Perfect Peace

Constant Movement, Perfect Peace
The situation at about 3 A.M.

For the weekend, I travelled to Latvia to visit a good friend of mine. We spent the first evening in Riga discovering the city's nightlife. But our main plan was to go to his countryside house. It's a few hours to the east, close to the Estonian border.

The place is special. It reminded me of what our place at Saaremaa used to be like. The closest store is about 10 minutes by car. There is no warm water. There is a dry toilet. There is one single electric outlet. The whole place is a mix of wild and organised. The grass is cut just low enough to be able to walk, yet there are flowers blooming in the dedicated garden area.

In these remote locations, there's always something that needs doing. At first, the tents need to be set up before dark. Next, the fire needs to get going for light and warmth. The electricity needs to be turned on without getting electrocuted. Now the fire needs more wood. Now it is time to prepare dinner. It's just a constant state of movement.

Yet it is so peaceful. Rather ironic, but it is true. It is in between each of those little simple tasks that you can catch a breath and be grateful. The special bonus is getting to stargaze next to dinner. The enjoyment of small things is amplified in such locations.

Yet sometimes you need bigger. On the second day, we got ourselves a hot tub. We rented one from a local couple living 30 minutes from our place. Fun fact: they had an emu wandering their property. The hot tub was a nice touch. Especially since this last summer month is not summering in the Baltics. During the night, temperatures went as low as 6°C.

This Week's Suggestions:

🎶 "Kami" by Kalher:

This is a song I managed to Shazam in Riga. We went out to a club and listened to a few really nice sets. This song is a very repetitive, groovy, hypnotic song. What entertains me in it is the simplicity of it. The melody is so simple but so powerful.

Have a lovely week!
