The Balance of Movement
"Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving." Albert Einstein
I have exams next week, so I am in full revision mode. This means that my calendar looks horrendous and multiple people have laughed in my face when I have showcased it.
In the calendar, when excluding sleeping hours, there is more planned time than unplanned time. It might seem overwhelming to have the full calendar time blocked, but I find that it gives me a good overview of what I wish to get done (more info about creating a calendar in Insightful Intakes).
This intensity is very much unsustainable over the long term. I do not plan on living the rest of my days in such a manner, but I do not mind certain moments of this higher intensity. It makes the resting periods feel even more deserved.
Nevertheless, even in times of rest, you must keep moving to keep your balance. For example, I will try to keep a steady working out schedule over the Christmas holidays. This can ensure that I will not simply idle away the two weeks (even though that is also an important part of rest).
Before the holidays there are still some exams to be done, so I shall dive back into study mode for the day. The thought of being in my snowy homeland by the end of the week gives me energy!
This Week's Suggestions:
🎶 "Sing" by Ed Sheeran featuring Pharell Williams:
My sister showed me this song when it came out almost a decade ago and I have not stopped playing it since. It is one of many songs I feel heavy nostalgia for even when being 20. This just goes to show how much influence your surroundings have over you. Keep that in mind when interacting with your own younger family members!
🎧 Podcasts:
This week I listened to two great podcasts – Colin and Samir's podcast with Mark Rober and Hasan Minhaj's discussion on the Waveform podcast.
The reason that Mark Rober is captivating for me is that he has an engineering background and on his Youtube channel he showcases what one can do with such knowledge. He has worked at NASA and Apple but after gaining a following of 10 million on Youtube he decided to focus his efforts on making engineering interesting and accessible to everyone.
On the other hand, the podcast with Hasan Minhaj, a comedian, caught my attention because of the subject of discussion – optimism about technology. They cover for example how artificial intelligence will soon be able to create human-like creative content, how positive behaviour should be incentivised online and whether or not social media is good for the entertainment industry.
That's all I got for You this week!
