Back To Kool

My Second year of prépa started this Thursday, the 1st of September. The three days that preceded it I spent meeting up with people, first in Brussels then back home in Lille. Then 2 days into my school routine started the Braderie de Lille which is supposed to be one of the, if not the biggest, flea markets in the world. Needless to say that I have been all over the place for the past week.

I do enjoy being back in Lille and spending time with my classmates here. It is one of the great parts of being in the second year. I already have a solid base here, I have people I can just hit up to either go for a run, a drink or a picnic. There are also certain downsides to having a social circle. Sometimes people will call you and not put down the phone until you drag yourself out to a bar at 10 P.M on a weekday.

Another something that became relevant when coming back to Lille is that I have more responsibilities. I sort of love it, sort of not. Cleaning and organising my household is quite fun. Going back to school and learning is fun. But then waking up at 7 A.M is not fun at all. I have not yet gotten my circadian rhythm back in place. Early waking is only a detail. The positives of having more responsibilities outweigh a lot of the negatives in the long run.

The final thing I love about going back to school is the routine. I know at one point this might become repetitive and maybe thus even tiring but right now it's just perfect. It might be that after a full month of absolute chaos I enjoy having something to build my days around. During July I had work but in August I was just left alone. I enjoyed it a lot but I also enjoy being back on track.

Thus from my point of view, there are quite a few positives to getting to go back to school. There is the social aspect, the responsibility side and finally the structure that it gives to days. There are also others but these were the three main ones for me this year.

P.S: If you were wondering about the weird title I just need to mention that kool in Estonian means school. Isn't that cool?

This Week's Suggestions:

🎶 "HYPNOTIZE" by Stevedreez:

I found this song while browsing through Instagram reels. It was in a selection of "vibiest songs you need" or something along those lines. It was the only song that deserved that title in my humble opinion. It is a very easy-going and calm song that can be listened to anytime and anywhere.

🎥 Can the economy grow forever?:

I find this video title very captivating. It is a very well-produced TED-Ed episode. Their animation truly reinforces their storytelling. To save you time I will quickly summarise the video – the economy can only grow so far while not destroying our planet. Economists have two schools of thought about this problem.

One finds that since we are creating technology at such a rapid rate we will find the solution to climate change. The other finds that we should fully restructure our society in a way to be more sustainable in every way. One is waiting to strike gold, which might never happen, or just not soon enough. The other is a very radical way to do anything since it brings up a lot more questions on how exactly to restructure society.

Have a good one!
