3 Reasons To Travel More

“And I urge you to please notice when you are happy, and exclaim or murmur or think at some point, 'If this isn't nice, I don't know what is.” Kurt Vonnegut Jr.
Travelling is a privilege. Nevertheless, it can be accessible to many, it is just that a certain amount of people seem to appreciate material returns of money. It actually makes sense. Experiences are such a non-tangible thing that paying for them might seem unreasonable since you do not know what you are actually getting in return. In this blog post, I will try to prove that prioritising experiences over physical things is the way to go about life.
Travelling makes us exit our comfy weekly routine. Adaptation is what we have evolved towards as humans. In the world we live in at the moment we have the possibility to completely escape any sort of need for adaptation. We can stick to a pretty monotone lifestyle for years – keep going to the same job, following the same daily route to and from work, speaking to the same people.
When we travel all of that changes. We have to use some kind of transport to get from one point to another, probably using a route that we have never seen before. If it is another country then there is probably a different local language and culture. Everything is new – the language, the stores, the streets, the restaurants and bars. This novelty forces us to adapt, and the more we have to adapt the better we get at adapting to novel situations.
Nextly, if you would like to boost the travel experience I suggest you try the concept of travelling with friends. This makes the whole journey more memorable since it is experienced through multiple points of view. It has to be mentioned that travelling with others is not simple. Everyone wants different things and thus there can be quite a few arguments. This being said, travelling puts everyone in a vulnerable state and I believe that this is the perfect way to form even deeper connections.
Coming back to the novelty side of travelling. I find that I am a lot more present when I am travelling. Being in a completely new situation on a daily basis leaves no room for the brain to go on autopilot. This is very tiresome but very rewarding simultaneously. At the moment of writing this, I am in Barcelona with a few friends and I have found myself saying "if this is not nice I don't know what is" multiple times a day. This is something I would use as a metric of my levels of happiness and present-beingness. Needless to say, this trip is a success already.
To conclude travelling
- improves your adaptation skills
- helps reinforce social bonds
- helps us be present and through that, happier
Thus I prescribe everyone a weekend getaway to test my 3 reasons out for yourself!
This Week's Suggestions:
🎶 "Turn On The Lights again.." by Fred again.. and Swedish House Mafia featuring Future:
This song came out two weeks ago and it has been coming up a lot in my music sessions. This tune is very viby and has a hooking melody to it. At first, I was not able to appreciate it fully, it felt as if something was off or missing but it grew on me. Let me know how the song makes You feel!
Thanks for the read!
