3 A.M. Function Dissection

My close friend and I organised a joint birthday party this past weekend. It took place on the island of Saaremaa. 50 people were expected. Needless to say it took some organising and stress.
We started plotting for it about a month in advance. Before that we each had a vision but no concrete steps were taken to move forward. When the date started to creep closer the stress levels rose exponentially for me. I don’t think I have ever struggled so much with sleep before. I just could not fall asleep in the evenings. Constant thoughts of what if this or that.
Since both of us are perfectionist overthinkers we had a talk about the fact that this party is for us and we should also enjoy it. It is not only for the invitees to enjoy. It was easy to say but in the moment there were times where I was worried about random things that truly did not matter. That being said, we both still had a lovely time and the people we invited were trustworthy and good people.
I also need to mention that it was indeed my family’s summer home so there was slightly more pressure due to that. But I was so happy to get to share it with all my closest friends. It was truly special since it is my safe space, far removed from civilisation next to the sea.
So what did I learn? Plan things but once in action go with the flow. Friction will occur, it is inevitable, but not getting hung up on it is important. Most of all, make time for people you care about. It always exists, but it needs to be prioritised properly.
This Week’s Suggestions:
🎶 “Sur la planche” by La Femme:
It just so happened that I met a person who is a part of this group and we got to talking. It is only later on that a friend of mine showed their songs to me. I was very pleasantly surprised!
That’s enough for these 3 A.M. thoughts!
